January Bujo: Romantic Floral Theme

I love setting up for January! It feels like a fresh start, the first month in a new year. I’ll be off on holidays for the second half of January in 2023, so my journal pages are a bit wonky - some of them that would usually cover the whole month, only cover two weeks this time. I won’t be taking this journal on holiday - though I will be taking a travel journal - so I didn’t want to put time and page space into planning for days I knew I wouldn’t be using my bujo.

This month’s entire theme is inspired by the Elegant Floral Pastel washi tape set from the Washi Tape Shop - there are links to all the items I used at the bottom of this post! Watch the video below to see it all come together or scroll down to see photos and a bit about each page or spread.

Cover Page & Quote Page

I’ve recently taken a Skillshare class on adding flourishes to lettering, and I’m putting what I’ve learned into practice for this theme! I wanted my quote to reflect a sense of adventure, since I’m so pumped for my big trip - hence I’ve chosen Jonathan Swift’s “may you live every day of your life”. I added a Dutch door design by removing the edge of the right page with a craft knife, following the shape of the floral stickers, to help it flow into the next spread.

Calendar Spread

You have to be careful when you’re removing parts of pages - you need to take the section you’ll remove into account when working out where everything will sit on the page! I like to plan everything in pencil first, including adding diagonal pencil lines over the parts I’ll remove so that I don’t accidentally plan for any functional parts to sit on areas I’ll move. It can get tricky remembering what’s getting trimmed once you turn the page!

Goals, Favourites and Musings Spread

I’ve been using these three for most of 2022, but I’ve made some changes for the new year! Up until now I’ve been calling the “favourites” section “currently”, but I really liked the lettering possibilities of the capital F so I’m testing out “favourites” this time! “Musings” (basically a brain dump by another name) is getting a whole page this month too, since there’s much to muse on at the beginning of a new year!

Habit Tracker & Mood Tracker Pages

This is where my holiday becomes evident! I’ve only set up enough habit and mood tracking space for the first two weeks of January, since I won’t be with my journal to fill it out after this. I’ve altered my usual thermal printer calendar template to make it work for just two weeks.

Ordinarily I like to start my weeks on Mondays, but for the habit tracker I switched to a Sunday start just for this month, since January starts on a Sunday and I didn’t want these little calendars to have an almost-empty top row.

The mood tracker is going to be SO cute - each coloured blob is for a day of the (first half of the) month, and the three doodles each have a mood assigned. Each day I’ll add the appropriate doodle in the appropriate blob.

Content Planner Spread

This one’s important for this month - since I want content to keep going up automatically while I’m on holiday, I need to plan it out in advance! Seeing it laid out visually really helps me, so I use this calendar to work out which videos will go live each Friday evening, and which blog posts for my other business will go up on which Tuesday.

I also use this calendar in tandem with Later to schedule all my Instagram content - some of it will auto-publish, like any static image or carousel posts, and I try to make sure those are scheduled for days I know I’ll be too busy to actively engage with the app.

Unfortunately reels are still tricky to schedule, if you like using the music library within Instagram, so I plan out when my reels will go up using static image posts of the reel cover photo, set up so that Later will send me a notification when it’s time to post. Then I make sure all the reels are in my Instagram drafts and ready to go! I always keep a copy though, since sometimes Instagram glitches out and you might lose your drafts. I make almost all my reels with my mirrorless camera and Adobe Premiere so it’s easy to keep them safe on a hard drive.

Spending Log & Europe Trip Planning Pages

My trusty spending log is the same as ever! When I feel the need to change it I will, but the need hasn’t hit me yet!

Because I extended my Musings section out to its own page, I’ve ended up with one extra page over what would usually be in my monthly set up, so I’ve dedicated it to any last travel planning I might need to do - this one will probably end up with a packing list on it!

Weekly Spread with Decorative Dutch Door

This layout is completely inspired by Anna from @Journal.Away - her November had a similar weekly that I thought was so beautiful! Anna’s version has a second weekly part (like what’s on the outside of my full pages) on the underside of the Dutch door panels. My Dutch doors don’t actually serve a purpose besides being pretty, they’re just fully covered in washi tape on all sides, but I figure since I won’t be using those pages as part of my usual weekly setup anyway, why not dedicate them to being absolutely gorgeous?
